Track Sync

Beginner

The essentials

As soon as you are signed in to your NavimetriX account with a Premium subscription, your tracks go up to the account, old ones and new ones, and every device connected to the same account shows the same list. There is nothing to turn on: synchronization happens by itself, in the background.

  1. Sign in to the same account on each of your devices.
  2. Open the Tracks tab: the account’s list updates, and trips recorded elsewhere arrive like the others.
  3. A trip in progress on another device appears at the top of the list with a flashing red dot. Tap its line to follow it live.

Going further

What follows the account

  • the track and its Replay data;
  • its name: renamed on the computer, it is renamed on the phone;
  • its eye (displayed or hidden on the chart), its colour and its other display settings;
  • its logbook, entered at sea or during a Replay;
  • the archive folders and the filing of tracks;
  • deletions: a deleted track is deleted everywhere.

The logbook’s “Positions” setting, however, stays specific to each device.

Follow the progress

During a synchronization, a discreet line is displayed at the top of the Tracks tab, with a small progress bar: sending track chunks to the account (with their number), fetching a track from the account, a track underway from another device. It disappears by itself when idle. The ⋮ menu of a track that is still uploading also shows “Uploading…” with the number of chunks remaining.

A long track can take several minutes to go up: as long as this line is visible, synchronization is working.

A trip in progress on another device

The navigation recorded by the boat’s tablet immediately appears on the computer left ashore. Its line carries the name of the trip (or of the boat) and, in place of the moving time, “Device:” followed by the name of the recording device. Your own trip in progress is titled “In progress · this device”.

This line has no tick box and no menu: it cannot be exported, filed or deleted while it is being written. Tap it to open it live: the boat advances on the chart in real time, with a “LIVE” badge in the playback banner. When the trip ends, it gives way to the complete track, which arrives in the list like the others.

Without a connection

Everything works on the device first: the track is recorded, the logbook fills in, and the upload to the account happens as soon as the network returns. Nothing waits for the connection. Replay data that has already been uploaded is erased from the device after 7 days; it is retrieved from the account when you replay the trip.

Change account

If you sign out then sign in with another account, the device shows the new account’s tracks and removes those of the old one. They are not lost: they stay on their account and come back if it signs in again, and their GPX files go through the 30-day local trash (see Organize your tracks). The track being recorded is never removed.

Tracks recorded without an account are adopted by the first account that signs in on the device.
