Polars and Sailchart

The speed polar describes your boat’s performance according to the wind: it is what guides weather routing. This chapter shows how to choose it from the library, create it with iPolar, import it from a file or an ORC certificate, touch it up in the editor and adapt it to your real boat with the efficiencies. It also presents the Sailchart, which says which sail to carry, and the Lost sail function for routing after a breakdown.

  • Understand and choose your polar Beginner

What the speed polar is for, how to choose your boat's from the library or from My polars, and how to adjust it to your real speeds.

  • Create, import and export a polar Beginner

Calculate a polar with iPolar from the boat's characteristics, import a .pol, .csv or .txt file, get the polar of an ORC certificate, and export to other software.

  • Polar editor and Report Expert

Touch up your polar curve by curve in the app, check it with the consistency warnings and the Report scored out of 100, then save it in My polars.

  • Sailchart Expert

Say which sail to carry by wind angle and strength: create a Sailchart from a usual sail set or from another Sailchart, import it, paint it, file it in the library and export it.

  • Lost sail Expert

After a sail is torn or lost at sea, create in a few seconds a degraded copy of the polar without that sail, to route with what is left on board.

  • Polar efficiency and wind thresholds Expert

Adapt the polar to your real boat for routing: efficiency in light wind, strong wind and at night, wind thresholds adjustable in My Boat, upwind and downwind limit angles.
