The essentials

NavimetriX runs on very different devices, from the entry-level phone to the desktop PC. On a device with little memory, an unexpected closure or a display that slows down most often comes from full memory. A few steps solve most cases:

  1. Install the latest version. Your version number is shown in Settings > About. At launch, the app itself warns you when a more recent version exists: “A new version is available. Would you like to update your version?”.
  2. Delete outdated routings in the Routings tab of the left drawer. Kept routings are reloaded at every start.
  3. Lighten the chart: hide the layers and tracks you do not need, and turn on Settings > General > Energy saving.
  4. Close other apps to free memory, especially on phone and tablet.
  5. If the problem persists, write to support from the app, right after the incident: the app log goes with your message. See Contact support.

Going further

Unexpected closure at launch or during use

  • At launch: kept routings are reloaded at every start, and they are also kept on your account for synchronisation between devices. Ensemble routings (calculated over several weather scenarios) are particularly heavy. Keep only the routings in progress: a routing is only of interest as long as the forecasts it uses are valid. To keep a record of it, export it or turn it into a route with “Convert to route”.
  • During use: the end of a heavy calculation can saturate memory, for example a long routing with a very short “Isochrone duration”, or an ensemble routing. Leave this setting on “auto” (its default value, in Settings > Routing), unless you have a specific reason. See Weather routing.

Slow display or black areas

A scroll or zoom that stutters, or chart areas that stay black, often signal full memory on a device with little of it. Free memory by closing other apps, then lighten the display:

  • Layers: turn off in the layers menu those you do not use.
  • Tracks: in the Tracks tab, close the eye of the past tracks displayed. For the live track, choose ⋮ > Display > Live track extent > Short (the last 20 minutes). See Record and display the track.
  • Forecasts: displaying wind and current as animated particles demands more of the graphics card and the battery. When sailing, prefer arrows or barbs.
  • Starry sky: Settings > General > Starry sky draws stars, the atmosphere halo and the heavenly bodies around the globe when you zoom out. Purely decorative, it can be turned off if the graphics card struggles.
  • Energy saving: Settings > General > Energy saving spaces out the refresh of instruments, the internal GPS and alarms, and turns off animated wind and current particles. This setting is specific to the device and off by default. It does not exist in the browser version.

The app does not work on a Windows PC

The variety of PCs makes diagnosis difficult. Check in order:

  1. The app version: in Settings > About (“Version x.y.z”). Update if the app offers it at launch.
  2. The Windows version: compare it with the minimum required versions.
  3. The network: the app downloads the coastline, chart backgrounds and weather over the Internet. Try another network (phone tethering instead of Wi-Fi, or the reverse), turn off any VPN, and on a corporate network check that a firewall is not blocking these downloads.
  4. Restart the PC.
  5. The users’ Facebook group (“Join our Facebook group” button in Settings > About): other users may have met the same problem.

If nothing helps, the PC may not have enough RAM, or its graphics card does not meet the app’s requirements. Write to us from the app so that we can look at the log.

On Windows only, Settings > General > Font enlarges or reduces the interface texts (from 75 to 250%), in addition to the “Display scale” setting common to all platforms. A font change requires relaunching the app.
