First Steps and Guides
BeginnerThe essentials
For a first trip, follow the Quick Start: it walks you through the screen, choosing your boat’s polar, downloading the weather, creating a route, calculating a routing and Navigation mode. This guide then goes further, feature by feature.
- In the app, open the Settings (chevron handle on the right edge), then “Quick Start” > “Open guide”. The page opens in your browser.
- For a specific question, press the “?” icon
, to the left of the “Settings” title: it opens the FAQ. - After each update, read the “What’s new” window: it summarizes what changes in the installed version.
Going further
A first run-through
In the order you will need them:
- Choose your boat’s polar in Settings > “My Boat”: routing derives the boat’s speed from it. See My Boat.
- Download a GRIB, the weather forecast file: “+” menu, “Download GRIB”. See the chapter Weather: GRIB files and forecasts.
- Create a route: “+” menu, “Create route”. See the chapter POIs, routes and ZOIs.
- Calculate a routing: “+” menu, “Calculate Routing”. See the chapter Weather routing.
- At sea, turn on Navigation mode in the left drawer. See Operating modes.
To find your way around the buttons and drawers, start with The main screen.
The quick start guide
The same page opens from two places in the app: Settings > “Quick Start” > “Open guide”, and the “View Quick Start Guide” button in the end-of-installation window, at first launch. It opens in the app’s language.
What’s new and version history
- The “What’s new” window is displayed once, at the first launch after an update. It needs the Internet to retrieve the list of changes; it is not displayed after the very first installation.
- Settings > “About” > “Version history” lists the changes of all versions. It also requires an Internet connection.
The “About” page
Settings > “About” shows the app’s name and version, then:
- Share anonymous usage statistics (on by default): these figures contain no position, boat name or address. Turning the switch off also asks the server to erase what it has already received from the device.
- Privacy policy, Visit our website, Join our Facebook group;
- Rate NavimetriX, on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android: opens the app’s page in the App Store or Google Play.
Glossary and roadmap
- The glossary of nautical terms explains the acronyms displayed by the app: COG, SOG, TWA, VMG, XTE and the others.
- The roadmap lists the features delivered by quarter.
